Overview
The Treaty of the Valley was the punitive agreement imposed after the War of Golds that established Nieves and Arcos as the dominant powers of Erodas.
Historical Background
After Nieves and Arcos defeated the alliance of Amazon and Barakos in the War of Golds, the victorious powers imposed the treaty to prevent both warrior cultures from rising again.
The agreement was witnessed by the freemen of Lambak, making the valley the symbolic ground where the postwar order was formally declared.
Signatories and Witnesses
The treaty was signed by King Pancho II de Aragon of Nieves, the young King Antonius Starkus of Arcos, and Queen Diana Donya Concordia La Cucaracha de Amazon, also known as Queen Donya II.
Amazon's queen and royal house were then demoted to noble status, while the freemen of Lambak served as witnesses to the new order.
Main Terms of the Treaty
By the seal of the Valley and in the sight of all realms of Erodas, let it be known that the following terms were sworn, witnessed, and bound under the Treaty of the Valley:
I. On the Supremacy of Nieves
Let Nieves be honored henceforth as the High Crown of Erodas, and let no throne, house, tribe, or sovereign banner rise above its lawful authority. The Crown of Nieves shall remain the highest seat of rule, judgment, and order throughout the realm.
II. On the Alliance of Nieves and Arcos
Let Arcos stand as the true and sworn ally of Nieves. By sword, counsel, blood, and banner, Arcos shall aid the High Crown in preserving peace, order, and dominion over all lands of Erodas.
III. On the Demotion of Amazon
By reason of Amazon's conspiracy and unlawful alliance with the Baruk, let Amazon be stripped of royal standing. Let its crown be lowered, its throne diminished, and its royal house reduced to the rank of Count and Countess.
From this day forth, Queen Diana Donya Concordia La Cucaracha de Amazon, once sovereign of Amazon, shall be known no longer as queen, but as Countess by the will of the High Crown.
IV. On the Dominion Over Amazonian Gold
Let all Amazonian Gold be placed under lawful trade and royal restriction. No gold of Amazon shall pass into the hands of freefolk, Baruk, rebel, merchant, foreigner, or any unauthorized soul.
Only Nieves and Arcos shall have rightful claim to receive, trade, purchase, or command Amazonian Gold.
Whosoever shall defy this decree, whether by selling, hiding, carrying, exchanging, or conspiring in the unlawful trade of Amazonian Gold, shall be judged guilty of treason and punished by death.
V. On the Banishment of the Baruk
Let the Baruk be banished forever unto Barakos.
No Baruk shall set foot upon the lands of Nieves, Arcos, Amazon, Lambak, Evloz, or any other soil beyond Barakos. Should any Baruk be found beyond the bounds of exile, the offender shall be slain upon sight by lawful order of the High Crown.
VI. On the Renunciation of Baruk Blood
Should any Baruk desire to forsake the name, blood, banner, and brotherhood of Barakos, such person may be spared only by kneeling before Nieves and swearing eternal allegiance to the High Crown.
But should such person betray the Crown after oath has been given, mercy shall be withdrawn, and death shall be the punishment.
VII. On the Forbidden Bond Between Baruk and Amazon
Let no Baruk and no Amazonian trade, conspire, gather, march, feast, marry, bargain, or be seen together in secret or in public.
Any person found aiding, witnessing, joining, or concealing union between Baruk and Amazonian shall be judged enemy of the High Crown and punished in the name of the High King of Nieves.
VIII. On the Neutrality of Lambak
Let Lambak remain the neutral ground of Erodas.
In payment for the ruin, bloodshed, and sorrow brought upon the Valley during the War of Golds, all citizens of Lambak shall remain freefolk, independent of crown, throne, house, or governing monarchy.
So long as Lambak raises no rebellion against the High Crown, Nieves shall grant unto its people economic provision, safe passage, and the freedom to enter, trade, and labor within the lands of Nieves.
Thus are these terms sealed under the Treaty of the Valley, sworn by the victorious crowns, witnessed by the freemen of Lambak, and bound upon the lands of Erodas until such time as crown, blood, or war shall break them.
Political Effects
The treaty strengthened Nieves as the High Crown of Erodas and gave the House of Aragon central political supremacy. Arcos became the recognized partner of Nieves in ruling the realm, gaining legitimacy, influence, and access to Amazonian Gold.
Amazon suffered a major loss of sovereignty. Its royal family was demoted, its gold trade was restricted, and Queen Donya II's reduction to Countess became one of the greatest humiliations in Amazonian history.
The Baruk were criminalized, isolated, and permanently separated from their former Amazonian allies. Lambak remained neutral and free, but its independence existed inside a political order still controlled by the victorious crowns.
Dissolution
The treaty was dissolved after the Battle of Erodas in 112 AR. Its end restored Amazon's right to determine its own rule and opened the possibility of recognition and justice for the Baruk.
The dissolution marked the collapse of the political system created after the War of Golds and the beginning of a new relationship among Nieves, Arcos, Amazon, Lambak, and Barakos.
Legacy
The Treaty of the Valley is remembered as one of the most powerful and oppressive documents in Erodas. It ended open war without creating genuine peace, and its eventual dissolution became one of the central political victories of the rebuilt realm.
